During the conquest of the Aztecs, the Spanish benefited from gaining land and large riches like silver and gold. It was an extensive business. Thus, they had the opportunity to cultivate a lot of food, most of which was unknown in Europe so it was soon widely spread with enormous financial profits. Furthermore, many enslaved natives worked there, and the Spanish were also able to convert them and other natives across the region to Christianity.
