10x-4=2x+12

First, add 4 to both sides

10x-4+4=2x+12+4

10x=2x+16

subtract 2x from both sides

10x-2x=2x-2x+16

8x=16

divide via by 8

8x/8=16/8

x=2

Therefore; the value of x that makes the sentence true is 2.

Note the equal sign, what you do to one side, you do to the other.

10x - 4 = 2x + 12

Isolate the variable (x). First, add 4 and subtract 2x from both sides.

10x (-2x) - 4 (+4) = 2x (-2x) + 12 (+4)

10x - 2x = 12 + 4

Simplify. Combine like terms.

10x - 2x = 12 + 4

8x = 16

Isolate the variable (x). Divide 8 from both sides

(8x)/8 = (16)/8

x = 16/8

x = 2

2 is your answer for x.
