The kite is split into 4 triangles. Calculate the area of each triangle and add them together to find the area of the kite.

The top two triangles have the same measurements of height 6 inches and base 8.5 inches. Use the formula 1/2 b*h and double the area to find for both triangles.

A = 1/2 (8.5)(6)(2) = 51 square inches

The bottom two triangles have the same measurements as each other as well. There height is 13 and base is 8.5. Repeat the same processes.

A = 1/2 (8.5)(13)(2) = 110.5 square inches.

Now add together 51 + 110.5 = 161.6 square inches.
