In order to combine like terms, there has to be two digits that are the same, like 4+4 or x+x.


In this example, seven is multiplied by an unknown variable, causing the product of those numbers to be unknown. You cannot combine a term you don't know with a term you do know, therefore leadign you to the conclusion that there are no like terms to combine.
