Tina has created a table of her bills, showing which ones she pays on her own and which ones she pays with her roommates. Which best describes some of the cells in this table? “Health Insurance” is merged, but “Individual Bills” is not merged. “Shared Bills” is merged, but “Rent” is not merged. “Rent” and “Health Insurance” are both merged. Neither “Shared Bills” nor “Individual Bills” are merged.

The correct answer is: "Shared Bills” is merged, but “Rent” is not merged."

  • Shared bills is considered a merged expense, which Tina will have to pay together with her roomates, and the total amount owed by each of them will be the result of diving the total amount registered in the bill (accrued during a certain period of time: a month, two monts, etc), between the total number of roomates.
  • The rent is considered an individual expense because, even though it is referred to the the house which Tina shares with her roomates, she has the obligation to pay a fixed amount every month, which arises from an agreeement she has reached with the house's landlord, and her obligation is independent of the one of her roomates. There is not a joint obligation so, for example, if the roomates do not pay the rent, she will not be expelled from the dwelling.
