In 1934, harold l. ickes wrote, "i believe that we are at the dawn of a day when the average man, woman, and child in the united states will have an opportunity for a happier and richer life. and it is just and desirable that this should be so. . . . we are not here merely to endure a purgatorial existence in anticipation of a beatific eternity after the grave closes on us. we are here with hopes and aspirations and legitimate desires that we are entitled to have to at least a reasonable degree." with these words, ickes showed that he was in agreement with whom?

Harold Ickes was in agreement with Rexford Guy Tugwell, an economist who worked in Franklin Roosevelt's presidential administration and was part of FDR's first "Brain Trust" (a group of academics who advised policies for FDR's New Deal). The "Brain Trust" helped Roosevelt overcome the Great Depression of the 1930s.
