I don't really like these algebra problems pretending to be geometry. There are much better ways to combine algebra and geometry.

OK, a parallelogram. QR=PS, PQ=RS, PT=TR, QT=TS. Geometry done. We substitute for the last two,

2x = y + 4

x + 2 = y

Subtracting equations,

x - 2 = 4

x = 6

y = x + 2 = 8

Answer: x=6, y=8
