Riley just opened a checking account at the bank. Within the first month, she deposited three checks for $34.98, $51.02, and $51.22. She withdrew $5.23 for new pencils, $10.22 for earbuds, and $7.89 for movies from her account in the same month.

Write Riley’s withdrawals as negative rational numbers and her deposits as positive rational numbers.
Answer:

Order the rational numbers from least to greatest and explain your reasoning.
Answer:

At the beginning of the month Riley’s balance was $128. What was her balance at the end of the month after all of her deposits and withdrawals? Show your work, no credit will be given

Part 1:

Rational numbers have both demoninator and numerator as integers

Riley's withdrawals:

5.23 ---- -
(523)/(100)

10.22 --- -
(1022)/(100)

7.89 ---- -
(789)/(100)

Riley's Deposits:

34.98 ----
(3498)/(100)

51.02 ----
(5102)/(100)

51.22 ----
(5122)/(100)

Part 2:

Order the rational numbers:

a -
(523)/(100) -----Least

b -
(789)/(100)

c -
(1022)/(100)

d-
(3498)/(100)

e-
(5102)/(100)

f-
(5122)/(100) ---- Greatest

Reasoning: Above the rational numbers are ordered from least to the greatest and they are represented by alphabets from a to f

Lets take the first rational number a =
(523)/(100) and compare it with the 5 other rational numbers. If it is less than all 5 numbers than that means it is the smallest one, this process will be applied on all rational numbers until all are sorted out.

Part 3:

Balance at the beginning: $128

Total Deposits: 34.98 + 51.02 + 51.22 = $137.22

Total Withdrawals: 5.23 + 10.22 + 7.89 = $23.34

Balance at the end of month: Total Deposits - Total withdrawals

= 137.22 - 23.34

Balance at the end of month = $113.88
