A subordinate or dependent clause is a oart of the sentence that provides additional meaning, but that cannot be a sentence by itself because the meaning that it provides is not complete. A dependent clause must be followed by a comma when it is at the beginning of the sentence. Therefore, the correct revision to this sentence is: While she slept, the alarm kept ringing in Jamie's ear.
