Similarities:

Both of the images are portraits photos of people.

There are shadows within on the face of both of the people.

White is a common color within both of the photos.

Differences:

One portrait is painted, whilst the other is a taken photograph.

One portrait has a man within the photo, and the other is a woman.

The portrait of the man is farther back than the picture of the woman.

Discussion: The portrait of the man is painted as if someone is looking at the man, and the man caught them within the act. The look on the man's face is very glum and terse. The message that this portrait is sending is that of disturbance. The man has been disturbed, and isn't too happy about it.

The picture of the woman, however, is very delicate. Her expression is that of the beginnings of being pleasantly surprised. Her hand is spread and is being put up to her mouth, indicating that someone just said something very flattering to her. So the message of this picture is that the woman is happy to receive a compliment, but quite surprised at the same time.
