How did American colonists try to solve their problems with Great Britain before they fought for independence

American colonists rebelled against British taxes, took part in small battles, created the Committees of Correspondence, in which they wrote the Olive Branch Petition, to get the British to give them representation in Parliament and repeal the Intolerable/Coercive Acts. Hope this helps!
