Explanation:

(f+g)(x) = f(x) +g(x) = (x/2 -3) + (3x^2 +x -6) . . . . add up the functions

= 3x^2 +x(1/2 +1) +(-3 -6) . . . . . combine like terms

= 3x^2 +3/2x -9
