Answer:

The
(3)/(8) of the cookies are peanut butter.

Explanation:

It is given that in a cookie jar,
(1)/(4) of the cookies are chocolate chip and
(1)/(2) of the rest are peanut butter.

Since
(1)/(4) of the cookies are chocolate chip, therefore the reaming part is

1-(1)/(4)=(4-1)/(4)=(3)/(4)

Since
(1)/(2) of the rest are peanut butter, therefore the part cookies that is peanut butter is calculated as,

(3)/(4)* (1)/(2)=(3)/(8)

Therefore the required expression is
(3)/(4)* (1)/(2) or
(1-(1)/(4))* (1)/(2). So,
(3)/(8) of the cookies are peanut butter.
