How many pounds of chocolate worth $1.5 a pound must be mixed with 10 pounds of chocolate worth 80 cents a pound to produce a mixture worth $1 a pound?

Answer:

12=12

Explanation:

Let x = pounds of $1.5/lb chocolate needed

(cost of chocolate) / (pounds of chocolate) = cost per pound

1.5x+10*.8/x+10=1

1.5x+8=x+10

.5x=1

x=2

2 LBS needs to be checked:

1.5*2+10*.8/2+10=1

3+8/12=1

12/12=1

12=12
