You work as a dental hygienist, seeing patients for 6 hours each workday. Each of your appointments with a patient takes the same amount of time. Currently, you see 9 patients per workday. How many more minutes would you be able to spend with each patient if you saw only 8 patients per workday, still seeing patients for 6 hours each workday and spending an equal amount of time with each patient?

Answer:

The answer is 5 minutes.

Explanation:

You work as a dental hygienist, seeing patients for 6 hours each workday. Currently, you see 9 patients per workday.

Means for 1 patient you spend
(6)/(9)=(2)/(3) hours

Or
(2)/(3)*60=40 minutes per patient.

When 8 patients are seen then per patient time spent is =
(6)/(8)=(3)/(4) hours

or
(3)/(4)*60=45 minutes per patient.

Then in the second case you spend
45-40=5 more minutes per patient.

Thus, the answer is 5 minutes.
