Firstly we will divide our triangle into 6 equilateral triangles by making the 3 diagonals of a hexagon.

and then finding the height of any one of the triangle by using the Pythagorean theorem and hence calculating the vertical length by doubling the calculated height.

Here we are given an hexagon which each side equal to 6 inches.

Hence from the figure we will calculate the length of the side AC using Pythagorean theorem.

since AB=3 in. , BC=6 inches.

Hence,
BC^2=AC^2+AB^2

Hence length of AC=5 inches.
