Please don’t guess I have to get this correct!!

The ordered pairs (1, 81), (2, 100), (3, 121), (4, 144), and (5, 169) represent a function. What is a rule that represents a function?

Answer:

f(x) = (x + 8)^2.

Explanation:

Note if we add 8 to the x values then square the result we get y.

1 + 8 = 9 and 9^2 = 81.

4 + 8 = 12 and 12^2 = 144.

5 + 8 = 13 and 13^2 = 169.

A similar results occurs with the other values of x.

Thus, the rule is y = (x + 8)^2.
