genetics is an evolving discipline because even though trait inheritance was noted a long time ago, modern genetics only began in 1900s. Even then, the DNA structure was not known until 1953.

Discovery of the double-helix structure of DNA allowed genetics to explain inheritance. It opened up a wide field of research. The Human Genome Project just finished mapping the complete human genome in 2003. Everything is so recent that genetics is an evolving discipline.
