Perimeter of one triangle is 5 8 of the perimeter of a similar triangle. The difference of the lengths of two corresponding sides is 9m. What are the lengths of these sides?

Explanation:

Let x represent the length of the longer side. Then 5/8x is the shorter side and the difference is x -5/8x = 3/8x.

You say the difference is 9 m, so ...

... 3/8x = 9 m

... x = (8/3)(9 m) = 24 m . . . . longer side

and the shorter side is (5/8)(24 m) = 15 m. . . . . shorter side
