Whenever someone is feeling depressed or there mood changes for a long period of time they tend to pull away from social gatherings, doing things they love, and even sometimes not wanting to eat or overeating. It's always a good thing to check in with a friend from time to time and ask him or her how they are doing. Its always a great idea to do therapy as well.
