During World War II, the United States mass produced cargo vessels known as the Liberty ships for the British, the American and the Soviet fleets. These ships were made to replace the cargo ships lost due German attacks. The main Georgian shipyards were located in Brunswick and Savannah. Here, the construction of Liberty ships created jobs and stimulated the economy because it opened many work positions and transformed the agricultural state into an industrial and manufacturing one, the production of Liberty ships also promote the modernization of the cities.
