Fresh pond has a population of 854 and it’s increasing by 3 people per year. Strawberry has a population of 427 and it’s increasing by 10 people per year. In how many years will the two villages have the same number of residents?

Answer:

The number of years that will the two villages have the same number of residents is 61 years

Explanation:

Let's assume number of years as 'x'

First Pond:

Fresh pond has a population of 854

and it’s increasing by 3 people per year

so, we can find equation for population of first pound

P=854+3x

Second pond:

Strawberry has a population of 427

and it’s increasing by 10 people per year

so, we can find equation for population of first pound

P=427+10x

Since, populations are equal

so, we can set both equation equal and then we can solve for x

P=427+10x=854+3x

427+10x=854+3x

7x=427

x=61

So,

The number of years that will the two villages have the same number of residents is 61 years
