Please help me i dont understand

Chris baked cupcakes for his bakery. He baked 24 vanilla cupcakes and the rest were chocolate cupcakes. He baked 96 cupcakes in all. How many chocolate cupcakes did he bake?

Use the variable c to represent the number of chocolate cupcakes he baked.

Which equation represents this situation and its solution?

A 96c = 24; c = 4
B 24c = 96; c = 4
C c + 24 = 96; c = 72
D c + 96 = 24; c = 72

Answer:

Okay first you ask, What am I looking for.

You are trying to find how many chocolate cupcakes were baked.

We can use the variable c to represent that.

We know that 24 vanilla were baked, and there were 96 total. The equation is

c + 24 = 96

To solve this we need to isolate the variable.

To do that, we subtract 24 from both sides.

It will look like this

c - 24 = 96 = 24

After you simplify, we can see that c = 72

So there you are!

96 cupcakes - 24 vanilla cupcakes = 72 chocolate cupcakes.

The answer to your question is C. c + 24 = 96; 72

because 72 + 24 = 96
