Solution:
Let cost of one rose bush = $ x
And, Cost of one pot of ivy = $ y
As, written in the Question: Asanji spent $42 on 3 bushes and 3 pots of ivy. Pranav spent $48 on 3 rose bushes and 3 pots of ivy.
Writing the Statement in terms of equations
1. 3 x + 3 y = 42
2. 3 x + 3 y= 48
As, the total cost of 3 bushes and 3 ivy in equation 1 and equation 2 are different. It shows that Horticulturist was confused , that he or she was not able to decide the right price of one rose bush and the cost of one pot of ivy, or cheated with either Asanji or Pranav.
In terms of line.
As you can see that , the two lines have same slope but Y intercept are different, so they are parallel. It means , the two lines does not have common point of intersection.
So, we can't find the cost of one rose bush and the cost of one pot of ivy.
