Briefly compare the economic situation in the Jamestown colony before and after John Rolfe's "discovery" of tobacco. How did Rolfe "save" the Jamestown colony from economic collapse?

before Rolfe arrived in Jamestown, the people there were starving, cold, and seemed unable to adapt to their harsh environment. They had come expecting to find gold growing like plants in the ground.

Rolfe found a new way to "grow" gold. He had illegally obtained tobacco seeds and planted enormous fields and sold for great profit wich saved the colony at that time.
