Solve the system of equations. x+2y=6; 3x-14y=8 please help

Let x = 6 = 2y so
3(6 - 2y) + 14y = 8 so
18 - 6y + 14y = 8 so
8y = -10 and

$y = ( - 10)/(8) = - (5)/(4) \\ \\ since \: x = 6 - 2y \\ 6 - 2( ( - 5)/(4)) = x \: so \\ x = 6 + (10)/(4) = (24)/(4) + (10)/(4) = (34)/(4) = (17)/(2)$
