Geography helped the Seminole tribe to resist removal by waging a guerrilla warfare until the US gave in and let the Seminole survivors stay in Florida. The Seminole became victims of coercion, deceit, and ultimately force through a calculated purge by Native Americans in the United States in the 19th Century. The U.S. Government decided to relocate Southeastern tribes west of the Mississippi River when several tribes were forced on severe and shameful marches to their new lands. The Seminole tribe moved to the Florida Everglades and resisted relocation through three great Seminole Wars by use of guerilla tactics to combat.
