The Suez Canal is extremely important for the maritime travel and trade between the different regions in the world and that is because it is shortening the route by a lot, and the waters are also safer for travel.

The Cape of Good Hope, on the other hand, makes the travel and trade much longer and much more expensive, as in order to reach India by going around it it means that one will have to go around the whole African continent. Also, a problem is the weather too, as in this part the waves are big and the winds and storms very dangerous and unpredictable.
