x = 4.31 and y = -1.23 (to the nearest hundredth).

Explanation:

y = 16 - 4x

3x + 4y = 8

Substitute y = 16 - 4x in the second equation:-

3x + 4(16 - 4x) = 8

3x + 64 - 16x = 8

-13x = 8 - 64 = -56

x = -56 / -1 3 = 4.308

Plugging this value into the first equation:-

y = 16 - 4(4.308)

= -1.23
