In about two hundred words, describe the author’s tone in the first part of the novel, Things Fall Apart.

I think that the first half of the book is pretty objectively written. Achebe does not tell the feelings of the main characters or even of any of the characters really. It seems as though it is a third outer voice that is narrating the story but the reader recieves no insight on the characters which leads them to draw their own concluseions about what the characters are like. Achebe tells the story so that instead of filling the book with the ideas of the characters it is more informative, which is a large reason for why he even wrote the book. The tone of the first half of the book is widely said to be similar to that of a fable which I think is no accident because Achebe strove to represent the culture and traditions of the Igbo people as accurately as possible. The story is told in the beginning like it is the voice of the villiage which helps the reader feel like the book is more rustic and authentic.

In the first part of the novel "Things Fall Apart" , written by Achebe, the author narrates the events in an objective way, without giving personal opinion of showing feelings and symphathy. The readers are given with the possibility to provide the text with his or her own emotions. The readers also have the decision about the characters. It is through the readers' perspective wheter the characters are estimable or even if their behaviour is justified. This purely objective tone appears through out all the first part of tve text. The tone in the first part is also supported by the use of native fables, parables and words which gives the story a rustic and quaint tone. It is towards the end when the author, Achebe, starts showing feelings towards the Umuofia.
