Following Reconstruction, the "New South" emerged, influenced by a variety of individuals, groups, and events. Some of these events were the International Cotton Expositions held in present-day Piedmont Park in Atlanta. These events helped attract visitors and investors, and also helped boost the poor post-war economy.
