Susan has 25% more books than Michael.

Number of books Michael has = 40.

Number of books Susan has = 40+50%(40)=40+20=60.

When Michael buys 8 more books number of books Michael has = 40+8=48.

Michael has less number of books than Susan.

Michael has 60-48=12 more books than Susan.
