Mariela earned the following test scores in math: 95, 90, 100, 85, 80 Mr. Adams accidentally entered Mariela’s next test score as 0. Which of these statements are true? Check all that apply.

Before the error, the mean and the median were both 90.
Before the error, the mean was 90 and the median was 100.
The error added an outlier to the data set.
After the error, the median remained the same.
After the error, the mean was 75 and the median was 87.5.
The mean was impacted by the error more than the median.

Answer:

The correct answers are (A,C,E,F)

Explanation:

I added all of the numbers and divided by 5 to get the mean BEFORE he added the 0 which resulted in 90. And also when putting the numbers in order to find the median I added than divided those two middle numbers and got 90. WHICH MAKES A CORRECT.

Im not sure on C I guessed :)

E- After he entered the 0 I divided the 6 numbers by 450 and got 75 (the mean) than i put them in order and divided the two middle numbers which were 85 and 90 then divided by 2 which gave me 87.5 MAKING E CORRECT.

F- The mean decreased more than the median which made this statement correct.

YES THIS IS CORRECT I DID THE ASSIGNMENT

Answer:

Before the error, the mean and the median were both 90.

The error added an outlier to the data set.

After the error, the mean was 75 and the median was 87.5

The mean was impacted by the error more than the median

Explanation:

First is to put the data in order from smallest to largest

80,85,90,95,100

The mean is add up the data and divide by the number of points. The median is the middle of the data

Mean = (80+85+90+95+100)/5=450/5 = 90

Median = 90

When a 0 is added

0, 80,85,90,95,100

There is now an outlier, which is a data point far away from the others

Mean = (0+80+85+90+95+100)/6=450/6 = 75

Median = (85+90)/2 = 87.5

When the data set is even, take the two middle numbers and average them

The mean was impacted more than the median. It went from 90 to 75, where the median went from 90 to 87.5
