Answer: 7 and 1/2 ( simplified) non simplified would equal 45/6

Explanation:

1.) First convert 5 and 2/3 to an improper fraction. ( 17/3)

Now, we have two fractions- 17/3 and 11/6.

2.)Next, find the common denominator- this would be 6 in this case.

3.) For 17/3, we change the denominator to 6. But the final fraction is NOT 17/6; Since 3 times 2 equals 6, and we have to do to the top what we do to the bottom, multiply 17 by 2. The answer is 34; the fraction is 34/6

4.) Now we are ready to add! Add 34/6 plus 11/ 6, And you will get 45/6.

5.) (Don’t do this step if you do not need to change into a mixed number) 45/6= 7 and 3/6 which simplifies into 7 and 1/2.
