Explanation:

Let the two numbers be x and y.

We have given that average of x and y is 17.

i.e
(x+y)/(2) = 17

if one of the number is 11,

Then ,
(11+y)/(2) = 17

or (11 + y)/2 = 17

or 11 + y = 34

or y = 34 - 11

or y = 23
