Answer:

Adults: 79 tickets

Students: 237 tickets

Explanation:

a + b = 316 Eq. 1

b = 3a Eq. 2

a = adults

b = students

Replacing Eq. 2 in Eq. 1

a + 3a= 316

4a = 316

a = 316/4

a = 79

from the Eq. 2

b = 3a

b = 3*79

b = 237

Check:

from the Eq. 1

a + b = 316

79 + 237 = 316
