If the scale is 2cm:8km and it shows the Park is 16 cm away how far is that in km?

The scale for a map determines the ratio between the distance on the map and the distance in real like.


(On Map)/(Real World) =(2cm)/(8kilometers)

Because we know the park is 16 cm away then we have


(2cm)/(8 kilometers) =(16cm)/(?).

Notice that 2cm becomes 16 cm by multiplying by 8. Do the same for the denominator and we'll have the distance in kilometers.


(2 * 8cm)/(8*8kilometers) =(16 cm)/(64 kilometers)
