Answer:

68 carnations and 32 roses.

Explanation:

The events committee buys 100 flowers for a school dance.

The flowers are a combination of carnations and roses.

The cost of each carnation = $0.75

The cost of each rose = $2.75

The committee spends a total of = $139

Let the number of carnation be 'c' and number of roses be 'r'.

c + r = 100

r = 100 - c -------------(1)

2.75r + 0.75c = 139 [we will divide the equation by 2.75]

r + 0.272c = 50.55 [ now put the equation (1) in the place of r ]

(100-c) + 0.272c = 50.55 --------------(2)

100 + - c + 0.272c = 50.55

-0.728c + 100 = 50.55

-0.728c = -49.45

c =
(-49.45)/(-0.728)

c = 67.9 ≈ 68 carnations

r = 100 - c

= 100 - 68

r = 32

The committee bought 68 carnations and 32 roses.

Answer:

35 roses and 57 carnation

Explanation:

Price of each rose=2.75

Price of 35 roses=2.75*35=96.25

Price of each carnation=0.75

Price of 57 carnation=0.75*57=42.75

When we are added both prices =96.25+42.75=139

So, it is equal your committee spend price.
