The author is clearly not a fan of pesticides. This is shown by her word choice. For example, she calls the use of chemical pestides unfortunate and calls them "weapons". She continues to say they have caused horrific damage to the ecosystem. All of the words, like unfortunately, weapons, and horrific help lead the reader to believe that the author does not like the use of pesticides against insects.
