Explanation:

We are given that,

Total number of shares of stock A = 100

Total number of shares of stock B = 45

Now, it is given the stock A is decreased by m cents per share, which provides that,

So, Number of shares of stock A = 100 - m

Also, the shares of stock B are increased by n cents per share,

i.e. the increase of 1 stock is by n cents, therefore the increase of 45 stocks will be of 45×n cents.

So, Number of shares of stock B = 45×n

Hence, the total change in shares = Number of shares of stock A + Number of shares of stock B = (100 - m) + 45×n.
