The original price of Doritos is the same at both Wal-Mart and County Market. Jon found out that Wal-Mart had Doritos on sale at $0.50 off per bag and bought four bags. Later that day, he found out that County Market had Doritos on sale at $1 off per bag and bought six bags. If he paid the same amount at both stores, what was the original price of Doritos? Answer:

$2

Explanation:

Let the original price of Doritos at Walmart = $x and at County Market = $y.

It is given that the original prices at both the shops is same i.e. x = y.

Also, there is a discount of $0.50 at Walmart and Jon bought 4 bags that day.

This gives us that cost of the bags = 4(x-0.50)

Again, there is a discount of $1 at County market and Jon bought 6 bags that day.

This gives us that cost of the bags = 6(y-1)

As, the new prices is same. Thus, 4(x-0.50) = 6(y-1)

As x = y. This gives,

4(x-0.50) = 6(x-1)

i.e. 4x - 2 = 6x - 6

i.e. 4x - 6x = - 6 +2

i.e. - 2x = - 4

i.e. x = 2.

As x = y, therefore y = 2.

Hence, the original price of bag of Doritos is $2.
