Students get two grades for a test in an introductory psychology course: a letter grade, and a numerical equivalent (weighted value). So an A is worth 4 points, a B is worth 3 points, a C is worth 2 points, a D is worth 1 point, and an F is worth 0 points. The results for the test are listed in the table below. Score F (=0) D (=1) C (=2) B (=3) A (=4) Number of students 11 18 52 13 6 Using the numerical equivalents (weighted values), what is the average grade for this test? Rounded to the nearest hundredth, the average grade is

Answer:

Average grade for this test = 1.85

Explanation:

Given that number of students receiving respective grade scores are : 11, 18, 52, 13, 6

Then total number of students = 11 + 18 + 52 + 13 + 6 = 100

Sum score obtained by total students

= 11F + 18D + 52C + 13B + 6A

= 11(0) + 18(1) + 52(2) + 13(3) + 6(4)

= 0 + 18 + 104 + 39 + 24

= 185

Now average grade for this test is given by 185/100 = 1.85

Hence final answer is 1.85.
