1st think about the fractions 1/7+6/11
1/7 1×11=11 7×11=77 so The 1st fraction is 11/77
6/11 6×7=42 11×7=77 So the 2nd fraction is 42/77 Now you have a like Denominators Now add the numerators That would be the top numbers you add together Not the bottom 53/77 Now add to whole numbers together 12+3=15 Then put your fraction with that That is your answer 15 53/77

12 (1)/(7) \: + \: 3 (6)/(11) \: = \: (7 * 12 \: + \: 1)/(7) \: + \: (11 * 3 \: + \: 6)/(11) \: = \: (85)/(7) \: + \: (39)/(11) \: = \: (85 * 11 \: + \: 39 * 7 )/(7 * 11) \: = \: (935 \: + \: 273)/(77) \: = \: (1208)/(77)
