The correct order of the Spanish class system,from most powerful to least powerful:

  1. Peninsulares:The highest social group.
  2. Creoles
  3. Mulattoes/Mestizos
  4. Indio
  5. Negro
  6. Slaves.

1) PENINSULARES - these were born in the Iberian Peninsula (Spain of Portugal), posessed many riches and had high positions in Government and Church.

2) CREOLES - creoles had 1 Spanish parent and 1 Native American parent. Some of them were wealthy and lived a life of comfort in the Peninsula, where they could afford an education. They didn't reach high positions.

3) MESTIZOS - these had a more mixed ethnic background, having both Spanish and Native American blood. They worked and served in higher-ranked people's ranches. Some of them became artisans. There were also the MULATTOS who had the same lifestyle but a mixed background of Spanish and Blacks.

4) NATIVE AMERICANS AND BLACKS - Natives were very poorly treated and forced to work without any pay.
