x = (1)/(3)y + 2 \\ \\ x + 8 = (1)/(2)y
We substitute for x in the second equation.

(1)/(3)y +2 + 8 = (1)/(2)y \\ \\ (1)/(3)y + 10 = (1)/(2)y
We multiply both sides by 6:

2y + 60 = 3y

So y = 60 and x =

(1)/(3) * 60 + 2 = 22
