6 = (1)(3) + b

Multiply.

6 = 3 + b

Isolate the variable (b). Note the equal sign, what you do to one side, you do to the other. Subtract 3 from both sides

6 (-3) = 3 (-3) + b

b = 6 - 3

b = 3

Plug in 3 for b

y = 1x + 3

Simplify

y = x + 3

y = x + 3 is your answer
