namely, how many times does 1⅗ goes into 8.

let's firstly convert the mixed fraction to improper fraction and then divide.

\bf \stackrel{mixed}{1(3)/(5)}\implies \cfrac{1\cdot 5+3}{5}\implies \stackrel{improper}{\cfrac{8}{5}} \\\\\\ 8/ \cfrac{8}{5}\implies \cfrac{8}{1}/ \cfrac{8}{5}\implies \cfrac{8}{1}\cdot \cfrac{5}{8}\implies \cfrac{8}{8}\cdot \cfrac{5}{1}\implies 5
