A rectangle has a length five less than the width if the perimeter is 14 units find the width and length

Length of the rectangle is 1 Unit and width is 6 Units

Explanation:

First we assume the length of the rectangle be x and width be y.

Then we go by the language of the sum and formulate first equation that will be x = y - 5-----(1)

Now we form the second equation as per language of the sum

(x+y)×2 = 14

x+y = 7------(2)

Now we put the value of x from equation number 1 in the second equation

y-5+y = 7

2y-5=7

2y=12

y=6

In the same way by putting the value of y in equation number 2 we get the value of x

x = y-5

x = 6-5

x = 1

so the length of rectangle is 1 unit and width is 6 units.
