Answer:

so a good strategy might be to solve for the entire area of a circle.. then cut that up into quarters and add 3 of those together to get the correct answer

Explanation:

area of a circle formula = pi *
r^(2)

we are given r =2 ( nice and easy to work with )

and we get to use an easy approximation of pi of 3.14

so the whole circle's area is pi *
2^(2)

3.14 * 4 = 12.56

that's the entire circle.. divide by 4 the multiply by 3 like this

3/4 * 12.56 = 9.42

you could also think of this as multiplying the entire circle by 3/4 (0.75) if you prefer but it's good to recognize that you can divide it up into 4 parts .. then multiply by 3...

Answer:

9.42

Explanation:

pretend the missing piece is still there. Find the area of the piece first.

90/360(3.14*2^2)=

90/360(12.56)=

3.14

the whole circle's area would be 3.14(4)=12.56, since it is a 90 degree angle.

then subtract the area of the piece 12.56-3.14=9.42
