10. A ladder 6.5 metres long leans against a wall,

touching a window sill, and makes an angle of
62° with the ground. Find the height of the
window sill above the ground. How far is the

Answer:

5.74m, 3.05m

Explanation:

The set up is a right angled triangle.

Length of the ladder is the hypotenuse = 6.5m

Angle of elevation = 62°

Required

Height of the window (opposite)

Using SOH CAH TOA trigonometry identity

Sin theta = opp/hyp

Sin62 = opp/6.5

Opp = 6.5sin62

Opp = 5.74m

Hence the height of the window is 5.74m

The distance of the ladder from the foot of the wall is the adjacent

Cos 62 = adj/6.5

adj = 6.5cos62

adj = 3.05m

Hence the distance of the ladder from the foot of the wall is 3.05m
